Weekly Updates from The Island VI Form

This week has seen a really strong careers opportunity for our students with the Careers fair held on Tuesday. It was lovely to see so many post-18 providers attending, offering their advice on various different industries.

Thank you to Mrs McCarthy for all of her work to support fundraising for the Mozambique trip next year. You can read below about their sponsored walk last weekend and there was also a fabulous wreath making event at VI Form on Thursday evening. The next fundraising event is on Thursday 17 December – a Christmas Fair in the Hall at VI Form. Please see the poster below.

On Saturday, a Mock Trial Competition is taking place at the courthouse where some of our students will be attending representing The Island VI Form. Good luck to the team and thank you to Miss Lowthion for supporting them.

Next week we have two events to look forward to, one being Year 13 Parents' Evening on Wednesday and then on Thursday it is Christmas Jumper Day. Please bring £1 in to support the Save the Children charity, or you can make your donation via Arbor. On the same day, we also have Christmas lunch being served in the canteen. This needs to be pre-booked please.

We only have two weeks left of term! Please remember that College finishes at 12.35 pm on Friday 19 December. Have a lovely weekend.

MOZAMBIQUE TRIP FUNDRAISING - SPONSORED WALK

Students attending next year's joint HISP MAT Isle of Wight Schools Mozambique trip took part in a sponsored walk and training hike last weekend in fabulous weather. The route took us from Blackgang viewpoint car park to Carisbrooke castle, giving us the opportunity to walk up some steep slopes, of which there'll be many on the Lubombo trail. The ground was very muddy underfoot and challenging at times, but the views were amazing. We encountered some alpacas at The Old Dairy, Lower Dolcoppice Farm and the owner kindly let us feed them, which was an incredible experience. The team got to know each other better and were able to identify their personal challenges with regard to the expedition element of the trip. Overall, it was a great start to our endurance training and vital funds were raised for individual contributions towards the trip.

The next fundraising event for the trip is a Christmas Fair taking place at The Island VI Form on 17 December from 2.45 - 4.15pm. Admission is free and everyone is welcome!
