Weekly Updates from The Island VI Form

It is hard to believe that we only have two weeks left of term. This half term has been a really positive start with some excellent attendance in place and clear engagement happening in lessons.

Next week we have the Amex Stadium Trip on Friday where approximately 40 students will be making their way to Brighton to participate in a University and Apprenticeship Roadshow. Also on Friday, it is to wear something yellow for World Mental Health Day. It would be really nice to see as many students as possible participating.

Although it is a little way away, can Year 13 please remember they have mock exams starting the week beginning Monday 17 November.

Now is the time of the year when UCAS and Apprenticeship applications should be well underway. 15 October is the deadline for Medicine, Oxbridge and Veterinary applications and other university applications are due by 1 December. Remember we are here to help, so please ask for support with your applications if needed.

Have a lovely weekend.

STEM Club

All students are welcome at STEM Club on Thursdays after school in S4. So far this term, we have investigated pH indicators, created reaction rainbows in burettes and created and tested pur own universal indicator. Last week, students were investigating slime molds which are a diverse group of microscopic, single-celled organisms. The students have set up agar plates to challenge the reported degree of intelligence and cooperative behaviour. We will see next week whether the slime mold has been successful at defeating the mazes to gain food and also if the slime mold has a preferred food source. Come along and join us!
