Weekly Updates from The Island VI Form

I would like to extend a warm welcome back to all our students as we have now entered into the summer term.

We had some really lovely news on Wednesday. The Young Enterprise team have won their most recent round and are now off to London to compete in the South East final. This is such excellent news, and we couldn't be prouder of them.

I would like to extend a sincere apology regarding the confusion with the latest Year 13 reports sent home. The error was unacceptable on our part and systems are now in place to ensure that this will not happen again. If you do have existing concerns around the data sent home, please email or phone reception, and we will work through your enquiry as quickly as possible.

As we enter into the summer term, it is important for Year 12 to focus their energies on preparing for the Year 12 exams in June. These exams are very important, if a student does not pass, their progression into Year 13 will be discussed. Mr Williams will be holding a special assembly this half-term to discuss exams to ensure students are all clear as to what they need to do to prepare.

As for Year 13, they are now entering the final push with their final exams now starting to occur. Please remember student study leave does not come in till after May Half Term. However, even after half-term, teachers may ask students to come in if they still have exams in their subject or if they have coursework to complete for BTEC.

Have a lovely weekend

Phil Pearce-Jones - Head of School

Calling all Year 13 and Year 14 leavers!

We are excited to invite you to be part of the leavers' photo, capturing the memories of your final year. Join us on Wednesday, 22nd April 2026, at break time, to commemorate this special milestone with your peers. This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on your journey, celebrate your achievements, and create a keepsake that you’ll cherish for years to come. Make sure to dress smartly and bring your brightest smiles. We can't wait to see you all there!

Celebrating successes at the Island VI Form

As part of our ongoing improvement at the VI Form we are exploring how we might celebrate and reward your successes. Currently, we rely on individual teachers to do this. On top of this, we also celebrate significant successes in the newsletter and annual awards evening. In exploring how a rewards structure might look like, we are going to poll both staff, students and parents for their opinions. With this in mind, could you please take a moment to complete this survey. Parents survey or student survey here.

Police Careers Talk - Thursday 23 April at 9.30

At 09.30 next Thursday (23rd April) there will be representatives from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary coming in to talk about careers within the police force. This will cover a range of different career areas, not just front line policing.

The talk/presentation will last from 30-45 minutes and take place in the main hall (following on from Yr13 assembly).

Please come along if this is something that you are interested in, might have a vague interest in (!) or are at present still thinking about your options after VI Form.

We will take names of attendees so this will not impact upon attendance should you need to miss part of a lesson.

New Learners and Continuing Learners

Post 16 Learners are required to apply for transport each academic year and each academic year the local authority is required to consult on the arrangements for the next school year. The policy for the 2026/2027 academic year is now available online and any application received will be processed in line with this policy.

The application deadline is 1st May and applications can be completed online at https://www.iow.gov.uk/article/2419/Travel-assistance-for-post-16-students

Transport for eligible learners, whose applications were received on time in line with the dates above, will be allocated to transport by the end of August, and Parent/Carers/Learners will be notified about those arrangements via email. For a small number of cases who may require complex transport arrangements, these may not be able to start in September and parents/carers will be notified if this is the case.

Applications received after the deadline will be treated as ‘late applications’ and can only be reviewed after all on-time applications have been processed. For the families of eligible learners who apply late, this means that transport may not be in place for the start of the school term in September and may not be available for the first school term. During this time transport arrangements including costs will be parents responsibility.
