Weekly Updates from The Island VI Form

With A Level exams well underway and the term drawing to a close, Year 13 is entering their final week of school. Their study leave will commence on Monday 1st June. Students will only need to attend school after this date if they have outstanding exams or are required for certain BTEC courses. Year 13's please come to the canteen at breaktime on Friday (22 May) so that we can wish you all the best for your future.

Our Young Enterprise team has achieved a fantastic victory, winning the south-east regional finals in London! We are incredibly proud that they have now qualified as one of the twelve teams to compete in the national finals in Cardiff.

The UCAS application cycle for university entry in September 2027 has begun for current Year 12 students. While formal applications are not yet open, students can log in to the UCAS website now to explore the available courses. Next half-term, all Year 12 students will receive guidance on registering for UCAS and navigating the options for both traditional degree courses and degree apprenticeships.

Please be advised that the college will be closed on Friday, June 19th, and Monday, June 22nd, due to the Festival weekend.

Have a lovely weekend.

Phil Pearce-Jones - Head of School

The Island VI Form blow the judges away!

On Tuesday 12 May, our Young Enterprise team, Boundless Wight, made their way to London for the South East Regional Finals. The journey was long and tiring but the team entered into the event hall full of energy and enthusiasm.

They competed with five other teams from across the Southern Coast, interviewing with the judges, running a trade stand, and delivering a thorough presentation covering their adventure so far in the competition.

It was a tense battle, however the team’s passion, effort, and skill shined through to secure them yet another victory, alongside the Marketing Award, and a ticket to the National Finals in Cardiff on June 3rd.

Please join us in congratulating the team on their impressive victory and wishing them luck in the upcoming battle for the National Crown.

Huge congratulations to everyone in our community who took part in Walk the Wight last weekend.

We had students and staff taking part in all of the distances, including the full 26.5 miles! You are all inspirational and should be incredibly proud of your achievement.

Walk the Wight is a hugely important event here on the Isle of Wight, raising vital funds for Mountbatten; a charity that is close to all of our hearts.

We are so proud to celebrate everyone who took part and would like to say a huge thank you for all of your efforts. Well done to you all!

Former Island VI Form student Josef Krista work is performed by Philharmonic Orchestra

We are delighted to share the success of former Medina College and Island VI Form student Josef Krista, who recently heard his own composition performed by a full orchestra.

Josef, who was a student at Medina College from Year 7 to Year 11, studied GCSE Music before continuing his musical studies at The Island VI Form, where he took A Level Music. He is now studying BSc (Hons) Music Composition and Sound for Film and Games at the University of Hertfordshire.  As part of his degree he studied composition for a year in the United States, returning to the UK for his final year.

Last weekend his composition, The Last Day for a Flock of Birds (Movement I), was performed by the de Havilland Philharmonic Orchestra as part of a public concert presented by UH Arts + Culture.

The piece depicts the awakening of birds in a meadow at sunrise, with conversational birdsong brought to life through the orchestra, beginning with bassoon and piccolo before being joined by other wind instruments.

Josef’s success is a fantastic example of where studying music can lead, from GCSE and A Level study on the Isle of Wight through to specialist higher education and professional-level performance opportunities.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Josef’s achievements and wish him every success as he continues his career in composition and sound for film and games
