Future Creative Careers Week

Future Creative Careers Week

Future Creative Careers Week is all about opening doors, challenging expectations, and showcasing the many routes into the creative industries. The creative industries are the UK’s fastest-growing sector and account for 1 in 14 jobs across the UK economy — that’s over 3 million roles nationwide.

This year, we were delighted to welcome Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) and Solent University, whose sessions were both informative and inspiring for our students.

Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) joined us to explore Alternative Pathways to Higher Education, offering valuable insight for students considering creative routes into further study and employment. Students discovered the creative world at AUB and learnt about the wide range of career opportunities within the creative industries. They also received an inside look at All Access AUB, AUB’s post-16 programme designed to help young people get ahead. The session focused on practical progression options and demonstrated how creativity, skills, and passion can open doors to university and future creative careers.

Meanwhile, Solent University brought the fashion industry into sharp focus through two engaging sessions. Concept to Catwalk explored the creative design process from initial concept through to final collection, using examples of Solent fashion students’ work. This was followed by a hands-on trend forecasting and concept development brainstorming activity.

In Behind the Catwalk: Fashion Photography, students had the opportunity to meet Gary Wallis, a photographer who has published a book of photographs taken backstage at Alexander McQueen shows and featured in a recent documentary about the designer. Students heard his story and explored the power of fashion photography as a creative medium.

Across both sessions, students gained a deeper understanding of how ideas evolve into finished collections and how visual storytelling plays a crucial role in presenting fashion to the world.

Future Creative Careers Week continues to celebrate curiosity, creativity, and confidence in shaping future careers, and we were thrilled to have AUB and Solent University as part of this journey.

Thank you to Claire Paul at Creative Island for supporting our students and helping to make these inspiring opportunities possible.
