On Monday 3 February, we welcomed Laura Marsh, a Senior lecturer on the BA (Hons) Fashion Design course at Southampton Solent University as part of the Creative Partnership Week in conjunction with Creative Island. 

Our students were given a talk about the creative industry with a focus on how students develop from sketchbook to the catwalk and the importance of a concept. 

Students were then given the opportunity to understand the journey of becoming a fashion designer. Students had the opportunity to complete a task in concept development, brainstorming what is happening in the world and branching off with responses to how they feel. A really useful task which students can implement within their current portfolio. 

Students finished the workshop with a greater understanding of what it is like to take a fashion course at university and how this can then progress to careers in the industry. It was a really worthwhile experience for our students, and we are very grateful to Laura for giving up her time and sharing her expertise with us.
