Island VI Form students explored careers in the heritage industry at a workshop organised by the Historical Association last week. The careers workshop, hosted by rotation this year at Christ the King College, invited the students to meet with professionals from a variety of jobs related to history. The speakers included archaeologists, an archivist, community worker, lawyer, historic site promoter, and the curator from Osborne House. They were also joined by Rhianna Wright (pictured) previously a History and Classics student at The Island VI Form who is now training to be a History teacher at Carisbrooke College. The students got to hear about their academic journeys, ask questions and discover how they can apply their historical knowledge to a variety of future careers.
History teacher Vix Lowthion said "It was a fascinating afternoon which really brought to life that their A-Level studies can apply directly to a range of possible careers. They even got to handle some Victorian artefacts! Our students were a credit to the college, and we look forward to working with the Historical Association again in the future."
The Island VI Form curriculum has an exciting offer of A Levels in Classical Civilisation, plus a unique History course which includes the British Empire, the Cold War and social history during the period of Stuart Britain.
