Prison Service Talk and Q&A

Year 12 students recently welcomed Gordon Wakefield from the Prison Service, who delivered an insightful presentation on the importance of making positive life choices. Following his talk, criminology, psychology, and sociology students had the chance to take part in a lively Q&A session, giving them the opportunity to explore the subject in greater depth.

Gordon  gave an in-depth and engaging talk about the realities of prison life and the role of a prison officer. He covered a wide range of topics including the balance between therapy, rehabilitation and punishment, as well as the challenges posed by limited funding and resources. Gordon also spoke candidly about the stresses of the job, offering students real insight into the pressures faced by those working within the system.

One of the most valuable aspects of the session was his explanation of what happens after a sentence is passed, highlighting the complexities of managing offenders and supporting their reintegration into society.

Students found his talk both informative and thought-provoking, linking directly to their studies and deepening their understanding of the criminal justice system.
