Head of VI Form's Blog - 20 September 2024
Dear Students, Parents & Carers,
I hope that you are settling in well at VI Form and are enjoying a new way of learning.
You are expected to spend at least 4 hours per week, per subject completing independent work during your study periods. This is one of the biggest changes and the adjustment that some students find very difficult to adapt to. Student Services and your teachers are available to support you. Just to clarify, "Period 1: not required" on your timetables, is a study period and, if you have any issues, speak to your teacher of the period 1 in the other week.
Typical things that you should be doing as part of your independent work are:
- Reviewing previous lessons
- Making revision notes, mind maps, flashcards, watching podcasts
- Being up to date with homework
- Researching future topics
- Reviewing resources supplied via google classrooms
- Looking at past papers and exam resources
The Student Services hub on Google Classroom is back up and working, class code: yn7p55z (will only work for students). Please make sure that you are a member, as this is a vital form of communication that we use.
Year 13 students should be finishing off their UCAS applications or starting to look for apprenticeship opportunities. Student Services and your teachers are available to support. A Maritime Careers Fair is being held at the Royal Yacht Squadron on Thursday 26 September. You can find out more details here: Maritime Careers Fair Poster
Finally, a reminder that we have a Staff development next Tuesday, (24 September) so students are not expected in school. Normal lessons resume on Wednesday.
